It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

I feel like I’ve been neglecting my bloggy baby lately! Have you missed my updates or is everyone too busy trying to get ready for Christmas to notice? I promise I’m not losing my blojo (have I just coined a word? Blogging and mojo – yeah, doesn’t really work if you have to explain it!) I’ve just been struggling to fit everything in to twenty four hours each day, and that coupled with trying to reset my body clock to UK time and attempting to catch up on sleep after my globetrotting lately has meant no time for writing.

It’s not just my blog that’s had to be temporarily pushed aside, I only managed to get to the gym once in November and I’ve only been once so far in December. I’ve either not been here to go, or if I have I’ve been so tired I just couldn’t contemplate jumping around like a lunatic for an hour in lycra! I’m too scared to stand on the scales, and, let’s face it, December is hardly the most conducive time for healthy eating, is it, so I guess we know what the theme of my New Year’s resolutions will be!

We have a table at work. It’s called the cake table. A table specially for cakes! It’s possible that it wasn’t put there with the intention of housing the office sugary delectations, but it very rapidly became known as the cake table when we took possession of it, and now no one would dream of calling it anything else! Seriously, it must be reinforced by the steel that we sell because for the past week it’s been groaning under the weight of Celebrations, Foxes biscuits, Turkish Delight and many other treats that are making my chubby bits chubbier!

My lovely friend and colleague Maria also has a steady supply of dib dabs, black jacks, fruit salads (does the healthy name excuse it? No? Bother!) and lollies in her Santa bowl on her festive desk (hope she doesn’t mind me pinching this pic from Facebook).

She also surprised some of us this week with these lovely homemade gifts.

We wondered what she was going to do with the Gü ramekins that she’d been saving! Now we know!

We left work one day this week to find several men on ladders in the foyer decorating a massive Christmas Tree!

How exciting! We’ve been in this office for six years and we’ve never had a tree before!

Its my gym Christmas party tonight (yes, I am still invited even after my lack of attendance lately!) and what with that and the festive atmosphere at work, I decided that today was a good day to climb up the loft and get Christmas down. Several pffftts later as I got rained on by dust and miscellaneous loft expulsions I had all the various Christmas paraphernalia down much to the surprise of Olive and Tinkerbell.

Apparently Olive thought the tree was delicious!

I decided to get in the festive spirit while I was decorating. It was before 10am so a little early for a Christmas Snowball (although I may have thrown caution to the wind had I had any Advocaat in the house, or lemonade for that matter), so I went with Christmas tunes on YouTube and a hat!

Does anyone else have their mother’s voice in their head while decorating the tree saying, ‘don’t forget the back!’ No? Just me then. I used to wonder why she was worried about the back of the tree, but I get it now. I get it especially this year as I have finally achieved an adulting aim of having my tree in a bay window! Isn’t that a proper grown up thing? Firstly owning a home with a bay window, and secondly having the tree in it so it’s visible from outside!

I have a particular order for dressing the tree. Our tree has integral lights so I don’t have to worry about hiding the wires, but I always wrap the tinsel round first and then step back to satisfy my OCDness that it looks even. Then I start with all my favourite baubles, all the ones that I’ve picked up from Harrods and various Christmas fayres over the years.

This one was made for us years ago by our nephew. He’s nearly eighteen now so he probably won’t appreciate me including this!

The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed this one in the full length pic above. I posted about this a few weeks ago when I made it from a kit given to me for my birthday. It looks lovely on the tree. Hopefully I’ll get time to complete the rest of the kit before Christmas (that may be wishful thinking given the amount of Christmas crocheting I have to do!)

I fill in all the gaps with our regular round baubles. Finally, the star has to go on top. Done!

Then I have to start upon the rest. We have a few homemade bits from my Mum. The tree skirt is her handiwork.

As are these two.

I make an effort with our fireplace.

The stockings were made by my Mum too.

I dot festivity around the rest of the living room.

Even the coati’s got in the Christmas spirit!

We had our kitchen and dining room knocked through this year to make a big kitchen-diner so I’ve extended the festivity to there too.

This tree is new for my Little Box of Crochet advent calendar makes which I’ll show you when I’ve made all twenty four.

Right, I’ve got to dash – need to brave the shops to pick up my Secret Santa gift for tonight. Very disorganised, I realise, but I do at least know what I’m getting, just haven’t had time to get to the shops!

What a lovely day

Every so often you have one of those days that make you so happy that you’re living your life. Today was one of those days.

This morning at ten thirty my good friend, Maria, and I headed off excitedly up the M6, destination: Atlantic Street Business Centre in Altrincham, reason: Little Box of Crochet Grand Sale Event. Ooh ooh ooh! Lots of yarny, crochet goodness, cake and the opportunity to meet the amazing Amanda who lovingly sends out our crochet boxes every month, ably assisted by Emma, Hazel and, of course, her angel Jenny, (check out their website to read about Jenny’s journey – it’s not my story to tell so I won’t presume to do so) and who in person was as lovely and warm as I knew she would be. I hope she won’t mind me putting this picture here for you to see.

We were a little early so we satisfied the rumblings in our tummies with a lunchtime snack. The cafe was in the same room as the Grand Sale so whilst we munched we gazed in glee at all the wonderful goodies available to buy and take home with us. The room was full of starry eyed women (mainly) falling in love with skeins of yarn, colourful postcards and, of course, Little (and Not so Little) Boxes of Crochet.

We had such a lovely, lovely, LOVELY day. We spent lots of money. I always find spending money is good for one’s mental wellbeing (provided that you’ve budgeted for it, obviously) but today it was doubly good because a proportion of the sales is going straight to the Brain Tumour Charity.

Look at all the amazing goodies that I came home with (including my November box which was delivered to work whilst I was on my epic week of travelling and delivered to me by Maria today).

I adore the teacup. I’ve seen this on Instagram and wished so much that I could do it …. and now I can!

Donovan Lamb was perched jauntily on the table promoting his box and both Maria and I fell in love with him so he came home with both of us.

I splashed out on my very first Not so Little Box of Crochet. As the name suggests, there’s a bigger project in this wonderful package, as well as lots of extra surprises. This one makes a very patriotic cushion which I’m excited to start.

Five balls of the minty yarn also ‘fell’ into my bag! I haven’t the faintest idea what I’ll make with this, but I couldn’t resist the colour. Maybe I’ll investigate the braided cowl that keeps popping up on my Facebook feed.

I’ll be sure to keep you updated with my project progress – I’ve a feeling that Christmas will be crochet-filled – but for now, must dash so I can try to make number two from my Little Box of Crochet advent calendar. I think I’ll save up my reveal for when I’ve finished all twenty four.

Toodle pip!

My day in photos

I’ve had quite a productive day today, unlike this gorgeous twosome who have spent most of the day snoozing!

I know I’m biased, but I’m convinced we have the two cutest puddy tats in the world. They’re so beautiful, they make my heart flutter a little bit.

I decided to use my extra hour today to make a start on this lovely craft project that one of my favourite people bought me for my birthday.

It’s make your own sequin Christmas baubles. This was all in a kit, but I’m quite sure you could get the equipment separately from somewhere like Hobbycraft.

You need a polystyrene ball, a bauble hanging cap (this is the metal ring that you get in the top of old fashioned style baubles – you could recycle from an old/broken one), sequins, pins and ribbon. That’s it!

After you’ve pushed your hanging cap into the ball you get going with the sequins. You literally just work round in circles, slightly overlapping the sequins as you go. It was actually really therapeutic and I really enjoyed the slow circular rhythm. I found after a while that it helped to balance the ball on a little candle that I have, and, happy bonus, every time I moved it round I got the gentle scent of fresh linen from my candle.

Heres the finished bauble. I LOVE it. So pretty and sparkly. Can’t wait for December to get the tree out and let it fulfil its festive destiny.

After my dressing room clearout yesterday we decided to go to the tip. I know it’s a bit sad, but I love going to the tip. Although I don’t like clear surfaces and have to have bits and bobs around, much to the chagrin of my lovely hubby who tends to be in charge of the family duster, I find it so cathartic getting rid of junk and clutter. We had three Gousto boxes which are too bulky to go in the regular recycling bin, and various other bits of cardboard as well as a load of rubbish that wasn’t good enough for the charity shop and a mahoosive bag of garden rubbish. All gone now!

I needed to pick up our click and collect shopping, and while I was there I spotted M&S and, inspired by the lovely Butterflies and Boundaries blog post that I read this morning I decided to nip in to get some lunch. Can’t beat M&S ready meals, and this is one of their best.

Spaghetti Carbonara. Yum!

Whilst I was out I decided to go and get a birthday present for my special friend whose birthday was actually last week, but I’m not seeing her until Tuesday. Obviously I can’t show you what I bought her in case she reads this before Tuesday, but as with any great shopping trip, I also came home with a couple of little treats for myself.

I’ve been trying to work out all afternoon if this is irony. It’s a Crassula which is toxic to cats, in a cat pot. Is that ironic or just misleading? Isn’t it just typically British to create a concept, that no one is ever actually quite sure how to define. We all know that Alanis Morrisette got it all wrong with her ten thousands spoons when all you need is a knife and all that. The only way that would’ve been ironic is if it turned out at a later date that actually a spoon would’ve done! Is my Crassula/cat pot ironic? Really not sure! Anyway, it had to stay in the car to avoid cat ingestion and is coming to work with me tomorrow.

I also got some new socks. Somehow mine all seem to have holes in the heel. Socks are so expensive! £20 for these nine pairs. Nice though, eh?

Back at Chez Green Girl I decided to construct the second raised bed, despite the absence of my lovely hubby. Not as easy with one, but stubborn to a fault I am, and determined, so I succeeded. I did have to admit defeat when it comes to moving them to their final resting point – that is definitely going to take two (if not three) pairs of arms.

Ta daaaaa! We will have our own fruit and veg next year!

I had a quick look round the garden, just to reassure myself that everything is ok. It pretty much is, although it’s very sad to see everything starting to shut down for the winter.

My Acer is still tiny, and it is supposed to go red in the Autumn, which is hasn’t really, but you can just about see that it’s trying.

And my Eupatorium has got some beautiful white flowers. It’s so so pretty waving around in the breeze.

By now I was getting peckish, so I came in and cooked the first of this week’s Gousto meals – Goat’s Cheese and Red Pepper Pizza with Rocket Salad.

Delicious! I love goat’s cheese.

Right, time to ease my aching back after the weekend’s exertions in a nice hot bubble bath with the last episode of the Cry on my iPad. I’ve watched the first three today and I’m hooked – I’ve got to find out what the conclusion is!

Toodles!
